The resignation \u2014 which takes immediate effect \u2014 was formalised in a letter dated December 1 addressed to the President. Confirmation of the development came in a statement on Monday evening from the President\u2019s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the statement, the presidency announced that Tinubu had accepted the resignation and expressed gratitude for Abubakar\u2019s service. It also said that the name of a successor would likely be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation later this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Badaru, aged 63, previously served two terms as governor of Jigawa State from 2015 to 2023 before his appointment as Minister of Defence on August 21, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His resignation comes at a sensitive moment, as the Tinubu administration grapples with a worsening security crisis and has recently declared a nationwide security emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speculation about who might succeed him is already underway.
