Rekhiat Momoh
Eko Electricity Distribution Company (Eko DisCo) has officially appointed Rekhiat Momoh as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, following a period in which she served in an acting capacity. Her confirmation marks an important leadership transition for one of Nigeria’s largest and most influential electricity distribution companies, especially at a time when the sector is experiencing significant reform, regulatory shifts, and customer-service challenges.
Background and Professional Journey
Rekhiat Momoh brings nearly 30 years of experience in Nigeria’s electric power sector. She began her career with the former national utility structures before transitioning into the current privatized distribution framework. Over the decades she has built deep expertise across commercial operations, marketing, customer service and distribution management.
She hails from Etsako West in Edo State and holds an OND in Business Administration and an HND in Marketing from Auchi Polytechnic. She further obtained an MBA in Marketing from Lagos State University. Her professional affiliations include being a Fellow of both the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria and the Nigerian Institute of Management, underscoring her grounding in strategic leadership and corporate governance.
Within Eko DisCo, Momoh has served in several pivotal roles, including General Manager (Commercial), Assistant General Manager (Marketing), and District Manager for major business units such as Apapa, Mushin and Orile. These roles provided her with broad operational exposure, preparing her for the top executive position she now occupies.
Leadership Achievements and Track Record
Momoh’s leadership is credited with helping the company make measurable progress in reducing Aggregate Technical, Commercial and Collection (ATC&C) losses—one of the most critical metrics for assessing performance in Nigeria’s electricity distribution industry. During her earlier tenure, the company recorded a notable decline in these losses, demonstrating her ability to improve both operational and commercial efficiency.
Her strengths lie in customer-facing operations and strategic commercial management, which are essential in a sector where customer trust is fragile and billing transparency is a constant concern. These achievements made her a natural fit for the role of Managing Director.
Strategic Priorities for Her Tenure
As the new MD/CEO, Rekhiat Momoh steps into a role that demands both continuity and innovation. Several areas are expected to define her leadership:
1. Deepening Metering and Billing Transparency
One of her top priorities is accelerating the deployment of prepaid meters and reducing reliance on estimated billing. This will not only boost customer confidence but also stabilize revenue collection for the company.
2. Reducing ATC&C Losses Further
Loss reduction remains a core objective. Her past successes in this area provide a strong foundation for achieving even greater efficiency through improved collections, technical upgrades and stricter enforcement of energy theft regulations.
3. Enhancing Customer Service Delivery
Given her strong background in marketing and customer engagement, Momoh is expected to intensify efforts to improve responsiveness, communication and dispute resolution. Customer experience is becoming a central competitive factor among Nigerian DisCos, and her experience positions her well to drive improvement.
4. Strengthening Operational Efficiency
Digital transformation, data-driven decision-making and improved internal processes are likely to be part of her operational agenda. Efficiency improvements can significantly enhance service reliability and commercial performance.
5. Building Stronger Stakeholder Relationships
Momoh’s leadership will require effective collaboration with regulators, government agencies, investors and host communities—especially as regulatory frameworks evolve and infrastructure investment needs intensify.
Challenges and the Road Ahead
While her appointment is widely viewed as a positive step for Eko DisCo, significant challenges remain. Power distribution in Nigeria continues to grapple with infrastructure constraints, high commercial losses, consumer dissatisfaction, and regulatory complexity. Steering the company toward improved reliability and financial stability will require sustained strategic focus and disciplined execution.
Rekhiat Momoh’s confirmation as Managing Director signals a blend of continuity and new energy for Eko DisCo. With deep institutional experience, commercial acumen and a proven track record, she is well-positioned to lead the company through its next phase of development. Her leadership is expected to bring renewed focus to metering transparency, customer satisfaction, operational efficiency and financial discipline—setting the stage for stronger performance and improved service delivery to millions of customers across Lagos and its environs.
