Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have rescued six people abducted by bandits from forests in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The rescue operation took place in the Ejiba and Saminaka forests, according to a statement by the brigade’s spokesperson, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, on Tuesday in Lokoja.

Lieutenant Abdullahi explained that the operation, which involved coordinated air and ground offensives supported by a police helicopter, forced the kidnappers to abandon their captives under sustained military pressure.
Five of the rescued individuals have since been reunited with their families in Egbe and Ejiba communities. The sixth victim remains under medical care.The brigade reassured the public and residents of Kogi State of the military’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
Lieutenant Abdullahi said troops will continue to intensify operations, dominate forest hideouts, identify criminal strongholds, and prevent bandits from regaining safe havens. Security officials noted that the operation is part of an ongoing campaign to curb banditry and kidnapping across the state. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to aid ongoing efforts.
Reports say the victims were abducted from a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Kogi State.
